I had my first session of the Barbell Club tonight and it was absolutely amazing!  I hyped it up in my head for so long and then this past week started really getting nervous for it.  My biggest fear was that, even though I’ve been doing Crossfit for 3 months, I haven’t spent any time doing the actual lifts.  We covered the basics of the core lifts during on-ramp (my first month), but that was a crash course and 3 months ago!  (I regularly attended the metcon days which was all pullups/pushups/kettlebells/rowing machine etc)  I wasn’t sure if I was going to have what it took to even handle the session let alone not look like a complete idiot.

My obsession with that fear led me to study, a lot, the technique videos that are up on the GBC YouTube channel.  Studying these technique videos really helped as I didn’t go into the first session completely cold.

Fortunately, my fears were all for nothing.  Everyone was really great, it was a very laid back and stress free environment, and the coach was incredibly helpful.  Each time my turn to lift would come up, he would be sure to pop over and watch and make sure I was doing it all correctly and give pointers when necessary.  My weights, while not earth shattering, were decent and since I had no idea what to start with – what I actually wound up doing worked out well.

I also want to give another big thanks to @AnswerSeven yet again for being there for me, and providing his positive feedback and moral support!

I’m so looking forward to the next 8 weeks, to finish out this cycle, and have a solid background with lifting to move forward with.  I also can’t wait to see what kind of improvements I make over the 8 week period alone!  Stay tuned!
